The Downtown district is not only a govermental center, but it is also considered as the commercial and financial center of Honolulu, Hawaii. Mixed with historical government buildings and the ethnic Chinatown, Downtown District is well-known as the vibrant heart of Honolulu.
Surrounded by Nuʻuanu Stream to the west, Ward Avenue to the east, Vineyard Boulevard to the north, and Honolulu Harbor to the south, Downtown District, the downtown district is the current and historic central part of Honolulu. The National Register of Historic Places declared many historical buildings here as National Historic Landmarks. The city government buildings, the State Capitol and it’s branches occupies the eastern edge. Along is the Punchbowl Street. The tallest building in Hawaii for many years is the Aloha Tower on the waterfront. Currently, the tallest building is the 438-foot tall. The Hawaii Pacific University as well as the first Hawaiian Center located on Bishop and King Streets is found also here.
